One of the year's more intelligent SF films, EUROPA REPORT, has been added to this year's Marathon lineup.

My original review: http://sf.theboard.net/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1376430077

Okay, another interesting addition.
We've got 9 features booked now, is this the complete lineup?
I'm thinking maybe a 2013 blockbuster added to complete things.

I can't complain but sometimes I still do. Life's been good to me so far.

Another one I haven't seen. Excellent.

And with this post I hit 100 and graduate to Full Member status.
Not quite the God status of old, but I'll take it.

Dinner break? What's a dinner break?

Love this lineup so far, and a number of movies I either haven't seen or haven't seen in along time. Talked to Wally Kemp and he also gives lineup a thumbs up.

Do I understand correctly that

ANIMOSITY
COHERENCE &
WHO'S CHANGING

are all announced for the Festival but not the Thon?
Reading reviews of Coherence, it looks more than worthy for the Thon - and so far unseen by other than a select few.

Thars only two possibilities:Thar is life out there in the universe which is smarter than we are,or we're the most intelligent life in the universe.Either way, it's a mighty sobering thought-WaltKelly

With less than a month away I'm wondering why the board is so quiet. Usually by this time new board members show up with important questions like
   --"What should I bring?"
--"Do I have to stay for all the films?"
-- "Where can I park?" and of course
--"How can I get good seats?"

...

Where's Metaluna?
...

Is Major Tom busy at his day job?

...

I miss you guys, newbies and veterans alike.

Hate to say it but I think most people on this site are the veterans who've been to many marathons.
Nothing really to lead newbies here and since most people are more normally active on Facebook & such they post there.

But even on Facebook there isn't much posting. A few likes and such, but, not much. And, at least half of THAT activity are 'veterans' as well.

All we can do is convince folks as we talk, text and otherwise interact with them to join the discussion.

One of those serious scholars of offbeat cinema opines:
Quote:
Could 1979’s ‘The Visitor’ Be the Best Film of 2013?*

– now that the film has been “rediscovered,” re-released, and reconsidered outside of its initial commercial context, The Visitor’s excesses, narrative incoherence, and outright bizarre stylistic choices come across as original and inventive, as a frame entirely without a reference. It feels as if one is watching a mainstream narrative film as might be seen by space aliens. That which was tired and derivative upon The Visitor’s initial release now comes across as brazenly unorthodox and downright avant-garde.

Possible answers:

-No

-Hell No!

-They must be selling some pretty strong beer down at the Alamo Draft House.

I, for one, am all the more excited by the prospects of what the 'thon crowd will think. "Lady Terminator" was a rediscovery that thrilled the 'thon audience in a way no DVD view ever could. All it really had going for it was tightly edited action and unintentional comedy. Still, we were thrilled and never bored.

On the other hand, reviewers of bizarre "rediscoveries" championed "The Apple". -RF Wink

THE APPLE and LADY TERMINATOR comparisons are stronger than the 'Best Film of 2013' one. And, THAT'S a good thing!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

FB announcement.  TRUMAN SHOW just added to the list.  Discuss, discuss.

I bring you peace. It may be the peace of plenty and content or the peace of unburied death.

Another great choice.

Not even usually thought of as science fiction (but it is.)
