I don't understand what you mean by "Iron Man 3" never making it out of the gate. It recently passed the $1 billion mark internationally.

er umm you're right. i was gonna say i only count the good old us of a box office but i see that is 400 million. so i'll retract everything and say that ironman 3 was released before memorial day so it's not in contention.

ed's review has sent "world war z" gaining around the first curve. man of steel holds the lead. elysium has yet to make a move.

caleb's rave on world war z has put it up even with man of steel. the box office for man of steel set a record for a june release but failed to break the all time record.

man of steel has pushed world war z into the rail and has retaken a strong lead. but what's this?  a movie called "lone ranger" has come from absolutely nowhere and appears to have joined the race.

IRON MAN 3 is better than MAN OF STEEL. WORLD WAR Z is better than IRON MAN 3. And, STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS is better than all of them .

in that case i have just decided to be a lot more choosy in my summer movies. because in my opinion sti dorkness stunk and i have already thoroughly panned it as such.

back to the race:
wooooe nelly!! here comes "the wolverine" from behind!

wolverine solo has not done well in the past but this could be the franchise's breakout feature. what people fail to understand about wolverine is that he is a really cool guy and the rest of the x-men males are dorks.
best line winner of 2009:
General:  "time for you to serve your country son"
wolverine: "i'm canadian"

Iron Man 3 is far worse than Man of Steel.  World War Z is a lot  fun.  Man of Steel is dark and super, Star Trek is very good but not great.

I bring you peace. It may be the peace of plenty and content or the peace of unburied death.

World War Z was kind of dull (promised too much action in its ads and turned out to be a medical thriller.)
Iron Man 3 too much done by remote control.
I liked Star Trek Into Darkness a lot too but something just did not click.
Man of Steel was best of summer for me but then I'm a Supes fan from way back.

Anyone notice we have not had a real flop this summer boxoffice wise?
Maybe Lone Ranger (how do ya spend $250 million on a western?)
And Pacific Rim is supposedly not tracking well with how much folks are anticipating it (they want the horrible Adam Sandler sequel more, there is no hope for humanity.)  Smiley

I can't complain but sometimes I still do. Life's been good to me so far.

Forgot about that one.
But then of course it was very forgettable.

OK, rank 'em. And, you can add in any other 'summer sci-fi' you've seen.

While not sci-fi, I just know the critics are going to be all over Johnny Depp for his costume choice in "The Lone Ranger".

...

When I saw him in an early publicity shot I said "Cool--he's of the Crow tribe!" Will anybody get that he's probably the most authentic thing in the film. Wink

Best review quip of the week: "LONE RANGER OF MARS" (note: I actually thought JOHN CARTER got a bad rap, although it did tank)
