On Facebook, it was announced yesterday that one of the Themes for 2024's SF/49 will be:

PARTY LIKE IT'S 1999

No films were listed, but it said that a "couple of films" from that year will be selected for the Marathon.

THOUGHTS? SUGGESTIONS??

what was that movie about the millenium with tom sizemore and raiffe finnes? what was it called? it was made a few years before the millenium and it was set in the millenium. the name escapes me but it would be a good tribute to tom sizemore. i remember his toupee got ripped off his head during the final fight scene. if that helps.

Strange Days directed by Oscar winner Katheryn Bigelow.
Solid flick.

Strange Days was shown at SF/22. And, it's from 1995.

Any 1999 thoughts?

I like UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD but it's pretty long.

Even the 'cut' version is 2 hours and 40 minutes.
The longer cut is 3 hours
The Director's cut is 5

     Ya think?????
     1.  It's from 1991, not 1999.
     2.  The idea of running movies from 1999 isnt the greatest.
     3.  Considering the precipitous decline in audience attendance, by all means choose some over-long, boring, wafer-thin-plotted onanistic exercise in self-indulgence that will take up nearly one-fifth of the Thon's running time so as to permanently chase away anyone new who might be interested in showing up.  Brilliant!
     4.  And, even better, lets run a BluRay because not only is a print not available, who could possibly object to paying out a high ticket price to watch something in a theatre that he/she/it could also run the exact same way at home?  Genius!
     5.  Heres a concept: lets run some movies that people might want to see, and not -- oh, lets pull a title or two out of a hat -- crap like UFOria & Future Kill.  Wouldnt that be something?
     6.  Dont give up your day jobs, guys.   Roll Eyes

I have seen the future, and it is sucky digital....

Those are YOUR words. It's not folks here on the messageboard that chose those two films or the 1999 theme 'twas folks who do this as their 'day job'

Also Future Kill may not be Citizen Kane but as an audience we had a ton of fun with it at last year's marathon.

if you want to choose an exemplar, it would be more appropriate to evoke alfred hitchcock's "vertigo" because it has usurped citizen kane and is now number 1 on the bfi list of greatest movies of all time.
