Films to play (Note Order):

THE MATRIX (1999) 136 minutes. Presented in 35mm! Directed by the Wachowski siblings. Before the sequels harmed its rep, the original was a game-changer in effects and SF action. With Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie Ann-Moss and Hugo Weaving. Winner of four Oscars including VFX and Editing. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/reference/

ONE MILLION YEARS BC  (1966) 100 mins. Directed by Don Chaffey. Presented on glorious 35mm Film! First time showing at the event, and its partly in tribute to the passing of Raquel Welch last year - appropriate since 'that poster' is what truly elevated her to stardom. The film also features fine stop motion animated dinosaurs by Ray Harryhausen! Fine score by Mario Nascimbene. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060782/reference/

LAPSIS
(2021) 108 mins. Noah Hutton's low budget AI thriller set in the 'not too distant future'. A festival hit which nabbed it an Independant Spirit award nomination. Dean Imperial, Madeline Wise and Arliss Howard star.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11540272/reference/

Lost In Space
- No Place To Hide (1965) 52 mins. Unnaired pilot sans Dr. Smith and Robot. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0773736/reference/

READY PLAYER ONE
(2018) 140 min. Presented on 70mm film! Steven Spielberg's VR thriller has wonderful visuals including many an easter egg for Marathoners to spot. Stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Simon Pegg and Mark Rylance. One of the few Spielberg films that John Williams did not score (Alan Silvestri). Academy Award nominee for Visual Effects.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1677720/reference/

DREDD (2012) 95 mins. Action packed reboot of the Judge Dredd character with Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headley.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1343727/reference/

MAD MAX (1979). 88 mins. George Miller's action classic starring Mel Gibson returns for its fourth visit to the event. It's intial showing at SF/6 in 1981 at the Orson was a surprise hit as the movie had really only played Drive-Ins and Grindhouses. Of course, ROAD WARRIOR (aka Mad Max II) would change all that with another sequel on the way. It returned for 1991's SF/16 at the Coolidge and 2001's SF/26 again at the Coolidge, but the first time with Mel Gibson's real voice! (the first two times were the U.S. dub).  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079501/reference/

PREDESTINATION (2015) 97mins. Clever Australian time travel thriller based on Robert Heinlein's 'All You Zombies' start Ethan Hawke, Sarah Snook and Christopher Kirby. Written and Directed by the Spierig Brothers. Peter Spierig also did the music.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2397535/reference/

TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN (aka INVASION) (1999) 99 mins. A hit at SF/25 when it was still unreleased, John Paizs' oddball retro 50s Alien Invasion homage/spoof has a dark comedic take. Robert Bockstael, Lorry Ayers and Campbell Scott star. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0159797/reference/

UPGRADE (2018) 100 mins.  Futuristic action thriller about implanting nano-tech. It stars Logan Marshall-Green, Melanie Vallejo and Steve Danielsen. Directed by THE INVISIBLE MAN's Leigh Wannell. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6499752/reference/

ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS
(1957) 63 mins. A personal favorite of Roger Corman's this one features sentient crustaceans on an isle. Charles B. Griffith (LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS) wrote the screenplay. Richard Garland, Pamela Duncan and Mel Welles star alongside Richard Johnson.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050147/reference/

DEEP BLUE SEA (1999) 105 mins. In 35mm! Renny Harlin's creature feature about sentient Sharks is goofy entertainment. Thomas Jane, Saffron Burrows, LL Cool Jay and Stellan Skarsgard co-star with scene-chewing Samuel L. Jackson who competes with the sharks for attention! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0149261/reference/

BLAST FROM THE PAST 1999. 112 minutes. Newly minted Best Actor winner Brendan Fraser stars as a man who spent just a wee bit too much time in a bomb shelter. The strong cast includes Sissy Spacek, Alicia Silverstone and Christopher Walken. POLICE ACADEMY and WKRP In Cincinnati's Hugh Wilson Directs and co-wrote. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0124298/reference/

and, of course,[b] Duck Dodgers
