I love rare sci-fi and they don't come much rarer than this pic (from the latest Filmfax #137.)
A still from a 1919 Japanese robot buddy cop movie. Story goes that the film was reviewed to a bunch of wealthy land owners in Tokyo. When the film ended the audience demanded affordable giant robots to work the fields and control the peasants. The emperor ordered the only copy of the film destroyed to prevent the idea from capturing the imagination of the public. Even the title of the film was forgotten.
Thus giant robots had to wait decades to catch on in Japan.
