The legendary Chris Marker has passed away at the age of 91.  His Le Jetee is without peer in all of film.  I was blown away by it the first time that I saw it at SF 6.  It was the basis of Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys.  Other highlights include Sans Soleil and A.K. a film profiling the master Kurosawa.  RIP.

I bring you peace. It may be the peace of plenty and content or the peace of unburied death.

La Jetee was a turning point in my life. It was after first screening it at the Marathon that I decided I wanted to work in films as a profession. Never looked back. (at least I made it as far as a career in TV, does that count?)

Dinner break? What's a dinner break?

Agreed, LA JETEE is a marathon landmark. It is way overdue for a return to the event.

It may even help sway certain members of my 'Connection' group who were too young to appreciate it back at its last showing at SF/13. They still refer to it derisively as "that jetty movie"!

SANS SOLEIL is also an interesting visual exeriment.

A bar in Tokyo is named after LA JETEE. Marker once said that having a bar named in his honor was better than any Oscar he could have been awarded!
