Feature Films Announced for the MARATHON:

INNERSPACE - (1987). 120 mins. Joe Dante's comedy makes its marathon debut. Martin Short, Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid lead a cast which includes cult faves Kevin McCarthy, Dick Miller, Chuck Jones, Kenneth Tobey and more (keep your eyes peeled). Oscar winner for Visual Effects. Entertaining score by Jerry Goldsmith. In 35mm!

DR, CYCLOPS - (1940) 77 mins.  KING KONG Producer Ernest B. Schoedsack directs this technicolor tale of a Mad Scientist (Albert Dekker)  who shrinks his colleagues. The Special Effects were Academy Awards nominated. First Marathon showing since SF/5! 35mm Film Print!

ROLLERBALL (1975) 125 mins. 35mm film print! Director Norman Jewison's futuristic (2018!) tale uses the game of Rollerball as a sort of modern gladiator parable. The baddest athlete is James Caan. John Houseman, Maud Adams and Moses Gunn co-star. The score is virtually all classical music excerpts. Cinematography by Douglas Slocome (RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK), who passed away in 2016 at age 97.  First Marathon showing.

WOMAN IN THE MOON (Frau im Mond) 1929. 169 mins. Restored full length version. Fritz Lang's classic silent will be accompanied live by Jeff Rapsis musical score! Much of the same team that worked on Lang's METROPOLIS brought this moon landing drama to the screen. Said to have been the first countdown in cinema.  DCP.

STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY 70mm film presentation! (1991). 110 mins.  The last ride for the original Trek cast and helmed once more by Nicholas Meyer (STAR TREK II, TIME AFTER TIME). Oscar nominated for its makeup and sound effects.

ANNIHILATION (2018) 115 minutes.  One of the year's most acclaimed SF movies. Screenplay and Direction by Alex Garland (NEVER LET ME GO) and based on Jeff Vandermeer's acclaimed novel. Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez and Tessa Thompson lead the largely female cast.  DCP.

THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN
(1971) 131 mins.  The Robert Wise classic, based on a Michael Crichton novel returns to the 'thon for the first time since SF/2 in 1977! Features Arthur Hill, James Olson, Kate Reid and Paula Kelly - a 'realistic' rather than typical 'Hollywood' cast of scientists! Music by innovative composer Gil Melle.  Oscar nominations for Art Direction and its crisp Editing.

DESTINATION MOON - (1950) 92 mins. Producer George Pal's pioneering space drama based on a Robert Heinlein novel directed by Irving Pichel. John Archer and Warner Anderson star. Oscar winner for Visual Effects and nominated for Art Direction. Hugo Award for Dramatic Presentation. The visuals are based on the work of Chesley Bonestell (a Documentary on him will be part of the Festival).  In honor of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Screening format TBD.

SOURCE CODE (2011). 93 mins.  MOON Director Duncan Jones' tricky time travel follow-up. Stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monagan and Vera Farmiga. 35mm Film Print!
