CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND (1977). 138 minutes. Dir. Steven Spielberg. Newly Remastered 4K DCP for the just passed 40th Anniversary of the Sci-Fi classic. Starring Richard Dreyfuss, Melinda Dillon, Teri Garr and French Film Director Francois Truffuat. Marathon Guest Douglas Trumbull did the incredible Special Effects. Nominated for 8 Oscars including wins for Sound Effects Editing (number 9 depending how you count them) and Vilmos Zsigmond's glorious Cinematography. Music by John Williams. Not shown at the Marathon proper since SF/10!
THE TIME MACHINE. 1960. 103m. George Pal's classic returns for its 3rd Marathon visit (SF/4, SF/30). Rod Taylor, Yvette Mimeaux, Alan Young, Sebastian Cabot and an army of Morlocks star. Oscar winner for Visual Effects.
7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD (1958). 88 minutes. Directed by Nathan Juran (20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH) and starring Kerwin Mathews and Kathryn Grant (a wife of Bing Crosby). Newly remastered edition of the classic and celebrating it's 60th Anniversary featuring Special Effects by Ray Harryhausen! Marathon debut.
LOST WORLD (1925) Silent. 105 minutes. With Jeff Rapsis Live On Stage performing an original score - LIVE!
MARJORIE PRIME (2017) 99 mins. Director Michael Almereyda's filmed adaptation of Jordan Harrison's Pulizer Prize nominated play is a low key A.I. drama featuring a lovely performance by Lois Smith (who also did the play). Also, co-stars Geena Davis, Jon Hamm and Tim Robbins. Smith is nominated for Supporting Actress at the Indie Spirit Awards. Music by Mica Levi (JACKIE, UNDER THE SKIN).
THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935). James Whale's witty masterpiece is one of the great sequels in cinema. Boris Karloff, Colin Clive, Ernest Thesiger and Elsa Lanchester as the Bride and Mary Shelley. Superb music by Franz Waxman. In honor of the 200th anniversary of the publication of Shelley's novel.
THEY CAME FROM WITHIN aka Shivers (1975). 87 minutes. 35mm Film print. David Cronenberg's film became one of the most infamous events in Marathon history at SF/3 at the Orson Welles. The reaction in some quarters was so extreme in Cinema One that it was replaced on the schedule for Cinema Two that night. Stars Paul Hampton, Joe Silver and the great Barbara Steele. Oh, the movie that replaced it in Cinema Two? Look no further than the next film on the list below!!!!
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968). 96 minutes. Director George Romero passed away last July, just before this year's 50th anniversary of this classic. Stars Duane Jones and Judith O'Dea (plus just about the entire crew!). NOTLD has an odd place in 'thon lore as it replaced Cronenberg's THEY CAME FROM WITHIN on the schedule in Cinema 2 at SF/3 after a legendarily bad reaction in Cinema 1. The progenitor of the modern zombie legend in film, TV and literature. This will be the first fully
scheduled appearance at the Marathon - bon appetit!
WORLD WITHOUT END (1956) 80 minutes. Not shown since SF/2 in 1977!! Cinemascope! Blu Ray from our friends at the Warner Archive. Time travel lark Directed by Edward Bernds and stars Hugh Marlowe (DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL), Nancy Gates and Rod Taylor (TIME MACHINE). Strother Martin supposedly has an uncredited bit part.
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (1960) 72 minutes. Roger Corman's classic horror comedy makes its marathon debut. Featuring a young Jack Nicholson in a bit role. Co-Starring genre fave Dick Miller, toplined by Jonathan Haze, Jackie Joseph and Mel Welles. Legendarily shot in two days, plus one night. Cool jazz score by Fred Katz.

ARMY OF DARKNESS. (1992) 81 minutes. Sam Raimi's goofy time travel sequel to THE EVIL DEAD with Bruce Campbell, Embeth Davidtz and Bridget Fonda. Keep an eye for a cameo by B Movie Director William Lustig (MANIAC COP series) as a fake shemp. Previously at SF/21.
20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH (1957). 82 minutes. Nathan Juran helms this colorful Italy set tale of a Venusian alien who grows and grows and has a thing about destroying Roman monuments. Starring William Hopper, Joan Taylor and Tito Vuolo. Special Effects by Ray Harryhausen. Previously shown at SF/4 & SF/22.
LOOPER (2012) 113 mins. THE LAST JEDI Director Rian Johnson's time travel tale with Joseph Gordon Levitt, Bruce Willis, Paul Dano, Jeff Daniels and Emily Blunt. The movie takes place in 2044...and 2074.
