Cady was a supporting player, but a good one. His grocer on GREEN ACRES subtly subverted the 'trusted general store' owner stereotype. GREEN ACRES as a whole was a slyly subversive show that often broke through the third wall in witty ways.

My favorite comes in the episode "Double Drick". You can watch it on Hulu: http://www.hulu.com/watch/140894

Check out the bit at the end (start around the 23 minute mark)!

A nice quote from Cady that puts his career well, “I’m remembered for those shows and not for some pretty good acting jobs I did other times. I suppose I ought to be grateful for that. Because otherwise I wouldn’t be remembered at all. I’ve got to be one of the luckiest guys in the world.”
