Title: Longtime friend of the marathon returns to ashes

Not sure it's been mentioned but as of the issue dated 03/15/2013 the Boston Phoenix has ceased publication.  http://www.wcsh6.com/news/national/article/235099/44/Boston-Phoenix-to-cease-publication
They were the official sponsor of the first two marathons (at least) so it is possible without them there may not have been a marathon. (in theory)

They were mentioned in later programs so they stayed with us for awhile too.

Yes, Kirok put it in the obit thread: http://sf.theboard.net/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1340131906/16#16

Definately, a sad passing. But, like I note, when I was in town last month, I was shocked at how pathetic it had become in print. The online edition was still pretty strong it seems.

Yeah in the 70s I discovered the local library would get free copies of the Phoenix (under it's B.A.D. title.) It's where I found out about places like The Welles, Off The Wall, Cinema 733, Coolidge Corner and of course it's where I saw the full page ad for SF1.

(okay, could've been The Real Paper)
