http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/boston-phoenix-closing-decline-ad-revenue-187...

the boston phoenix is dead dead dead. finite, el foldo, stick a fork in it, it's done. it's twisting slowly in the wind, pining for the fiords. it is an ex weekly publication. but wait, the mythological phoenix rose from the ashes. no! not happnin here. happy trails. hasta la vista baby.

Sad, but expected. I was shocked when I was in town around Marathon time and picked up a copy of the Phoenix. It looked like a pamphlet! L.A.'s alternative paper, the LA WEEKLY is still going, but, it's part of the larger Village chain. And, maybe the "Escort" and breast implant ads still sell enough in L.A. to keep it going fairly strongly.

I go back to when it started out as B.A.D. - Boston After Dark. And, there was a 1977 film called BETWEEN THE LINES that was based on the paper. It featured Jeff Goldblum and John Heard, and is pretty decent (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075744/combined)

MILO O'SHEA, who played Duran Duran (actually Durand Durand) in the two-time Marathon entry BARBARELLA has passed on. O'Shea also appeared in such genre films as Vincent Price's THEATER OF BLOOD and the rarely shown THE ADDING MACHINE.

Outside of BARARELLA, O'Shea is perhaps best known for his appearance in 1968's ROMEO AND JULIET.

RIP to Steve "Lt. Hondo and The Baron" Forrest.  Dana Andrews' kid brother was a solid performer.

I bring you peace. It may be the peace of plenty and content or the peace of unburied death.

DENNIS FARINA, one of the most affable of all movie bad guys has passed on. A former real life cop, Farina often played folks from the other side of the tracks in films like GET SHORTY, MIDNIGHT RUN and SNATCH.

eilenn brennan.

her very first role was "star wagon" with orson bean AND a very young dustin hoffman. it is a tv movie and a risky proposition for the marathon. it's about a turn of the century inventor who makes a time machine.

Frost had a very fine career in British Television along with a lot of crossover work here.

It's a little disappointing that his most visible image to the current generation is the one as portrayed in the film FROST/NIXON. The real David Frost was a lot less callow and substantive than portrayed in that movie (and the real Nixon wasn't as warm and fuzzy than Frank Langella).

Frost hosted & did much of the writing for That Was The Week That Was a much more satiric topical affairs comedy show than anything ever shown here.
Lived in England  in High School & can guarantee that it was as funny and a lot more pointed than anything American. The US version, also fronted by Frost was heavily censored.
It's amazing that he was eventually knighted considering the outrage that some of the shows comments about the government & the monarchy caused.
More power to the Pythons for satirizing Frost. He became the sort of icon and powerhouse, perhaps for good reasons, that he originally satirized. Peter Cook once commented that the one thing that he ever regretted was saving Frost from drowning.

Thars only two possibilities:Thar is life out there in the universe which is smarter than we are,or we're the most intelligent life in the universe.Either way, it's a mighty sobering thought-WaltKelly

Astronaut SCOTT CARPENTER has passed on. He was one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts who became the 4th American in space, and the 2nd to orbit the earth. Only John Glenn remains of that original group.

Carpenter uttered the oft-quoted line, "Goodspeed John Glenn" as Glenn's craft left the launching pad.

And, now, we can say, "Goodspeed Scott Carpenter"
