WILLIAM SCHALLERT has passed on. Perhaps no actor has made as many marathon appearances as he. A truly talented character actor who was sturdy support in so many TV programs and films. Today's LA Times obit has a bittersweet story of how Schallert was once set to be the title character of his own TV show, but the execs decided he wasn't a big enough "name" to carry it. But, Schallert had the last laugh with hundreds of more acting gigs.

His Marathon appearances: MAN FROM PLANET X, THEM!, MONOLITH MONSTERS, INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, COLOSSUS: THE FORBIN PROJECT and GREMLINS. And, of course, several of those titles have been shown numerous times such as THEM! and its five Marathon showings.  Am I missing any?

RIP

William Schallert seemed to be almost everywhere cinematically. In the 50's and 60'she was in many movies and on tv.  A sad day such a wonderful actor has passed away.

You forgot "MANT!" The movie within the movie "Matinee"(1993). While the latter has yet to be shown at the Marathon, The "MANT" footage was shown at the Coolidge.

(He can be seen getting strangled at 2:52)

Good job otherwise in memorializing a fine character actor with a long career.

How could I forget?!!

I was the one who procured the MANT reel from Joe Dante himself!
