Odd comment of FB about tonight's opening night crowd: "The audience sounded like a bunch of fatuous synchophants."

Anybody else attend and make sense of that remark?

Screenings heavy with friends and family like last night's can often sound like that - it may be a pretty bad movie, but everyone wants to compliment and be supportive, and the questions can be half in-joke that those of us who aren't insiders find...  Well, fatuous is harsh, but not entirely off the mark.

I was there, and one did get the sense that more than half the audience were in some way involved with the production of the film. The film is very involving and I liked it, but it didn't feel like a fully formed story.

A decent enough day - the short package wasn't bad, Dust of War was kind of a disappointment considering some of the on-screen talent (worth noting: Tony Todd's agent is doing his job well to get his client first billing on this), LFO could have spun its wheels a little less but is one of the better examples we've seen of someone basically making a film in his own house, and Animosity wasn't a bad horror movie.

A note from the 'fest - there were technical difficulties with the first shorts program (a bluray -data- as opposed to movie-format disk that couldn't be played on available equipment). Two of the shorts were shown from other sources - iBrain and Flesh Computer. The rest weren't and there may be an additional shorts program announced at some point to do those.

Garen also mentioned that there will be a "sidebar" during the 'thon in one or both of the downstairs cinemas, showing shorts and other things not in the main program

Per Facebook/Twitter, both the 5pm shorts program and the 7pm screening of Who's Changing have been postponed due to a bit of snow; no word yet on Coherence at 9pm.

Of course, it's not on the website because I don't know why.  Or maybe I'm just a dinosaur for thinking that would be the first logical place to look rather than searching for a group's Facebook page.

Now corrected to 9:40 PM on Saturday. So much for that.. I need to be in bed by then to have any hope of not sleeping through the Marathon.
