Something weird, something sad. MIKE VRANEY, the man behind the pioneering home video firm, SOMETHING WEIRD has passed on at the way too early age of 56. It's hard to explain to younger film fans how incredibly difficult it was to see obscure movies back before VCR's, let alone the Internet. While most video companies sought out the familiar and the famous, Vraney searched out the cult, the obscure and the forgotten. With his efforts, hundreds if not thousands of movies have been rescued from certain oblivion. And, he helped BASKET CASE attain (and maintain) cult status. He also managed the Dead Kennedys! I got to meek Mike a few times. Always, kind. Always enthusiastic about preserving the legacy of films that few else thought about saving. He will be greatly missed.
