In anticipation of our last day, TCM will be showing a number of science fiction films on December 21st.
7:00 AM Lost Missile, The (1958)[/u} Starring Robert Loggia. An alien missle appears in space. Attempting to knock it down, a foreign power only succeeds in changing the missle's path and putting it in orbit around the earth where is leaves a path of destruction in its' wake. This was a very difficult movie to find until a few years ago.
[u]8:30 AM Satan Bug, The (1965) An interesting spy thriller from the 60's based on an Alistair MacLean novel, screnplay by James Clavell and directed By John Sturges. A germ warfare lab has had an "accident". It is quickly learned that there has been a theft of biological weapons one of which is capable of destroying all life on earth.
10:30 AM Last Man On Earth, The (1964) One of several versions of the novel I Am Legend. Vincent Price as the titular character fighting the plague created vampires.
12:00 PM Bed Sitting Room, The (1969) Loony, off-the-wall British comedy about what folks do after the end of the world. Directed by Richard Lester. Featuring the comedy stylings of Moore and Cook.
2:00 PM Five (1951) post-apocalyptic science fiction film produced, directed and written by Arch Oboler. The title refers to the number of survivors of an atomic bomb disaster that wipes out the rest of the human race. The film is very low budget but an interesting story of survival. The house in the film was Obler's house and was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Reportedly, the first post apocalyptic film.
4:00 PM Panic in Year Zero (1962) Directed and starring Ray Milland. This is the story of the Baldwin family whose camping trip is put on hold due to a nuclear war. It's a fairly grim portrait of humanity.
6:00 PM World, The Flesh, And The Devil, The (1959) Harry Belafonte plays a miner who gets trapped in a small cave-in. He digs his way out to find every living soul on earth has vanished; that is until he discovers Inger Stevens. The two form a bond until a third man enters the picture. Lots of sexual tensions and race issues.
Some of these have played the thon. Name them.
