"Citizen Kane" no longer a top film according to the BFI poll.

http://movies.yahoo.com/news/vertigo-tops-citizen-kane-greatest-film-time-poll-1...

One science fiction film made both top ten lists. ...I'm betting we'll all get this one right. Wink

The critics list, not surprisingly, is filled with films that are more respected than actually liked and more talked about in film books than screened...

The Critics’ Top 10 Greatest Films of All Time

Vertigo (Hitchcock, 1958)

Citizen Kane (Welles, 1941)

Tokyo Story (Ozu, 1953)

La Règle du jeu (Renoir, 1939)

Sunrise: A Song for Two Humans (Murnau, 1927)

2001: A Space Odyssey (Kubrick, 1968)

The Searchers (Ford, 1956)

Man With a Movie Camera (Dziga Vertov, 1929)

The Passion of Joan of Arc (Dreyer, 1927)

8 ½ (Fellini, 1963)

STORY: Orson Welles' 'Citizen Kane' Oscar Sells for $861,542

The director's list is a lot more fun:

The Directors’ Top 10 Greatest Films of All Time

Tokyo Story (Ozu, 1953)

2001: A Space Odyssey (Kubrick, 1968)

Citizen Kane (Welles, 1941)

8 ½ (Fellini, 1963)

Taxi Driver (Scorsese, 1980)

Apocalypse Now (Coppola, 1979)

The Godfather (Coppola, 1972)

Vertigo (Hitchcock, 1958)

Mirror (Tarkovsky, 1974)

Bicycle Thieves (De Sica, 1948)

Interesting how a list from a UK publication has only one british director (Hitchcock) for work after he left the UK, plus Kubrick who left the US for the UK.

The two top 10s are pretty similar. I suppose TAXI DRIVER, THE GODFATHER and APOCALYPSE NOW are more "fun" than somthing like SUNRISE that is left off the other list - but SUNRISE is better than all 3 of those films.

But, any list that has
8 1/2
on it, is all right by me (my Number 1, even if Ed Symkus doesn't understand it!  Tongue  Heck, on second thought, it's even greater because of that!  Cheesy ).

I love VERTIGO. It has the greatest film score ever - Bernard Herrmann (you know, the one THE ARTIST paid "homage" to). For the record, my favorite Hitchcock films: SHADOW OF A DOUBT, 39 STEPS, PSYCHO and THE YOUNG AND THE INNOCENT - VERTIGO would be in the running.

The 1-Ton Mars Lander is going in tonight and watch parties logging in to www.nasa.gov can see it as it happens, minus the time delay, anxious to find out whether it becomes the greatest achievement to date in planetary exploration or if it follows the Beagle, and 60% of other landing efforts, in becoming a smoldering mass in a big crater on the planet's surface.

Will it send back amazing images?

Will Marvin blow it into 1,000,000,000 micro-bits?

Tune in and find out!  Shocked

New Hover Vehicle Recalls 'Star Wars' Bike
http://news.yahoo.com/hover-vehicle-recalls-star-wars-bike-171401941.html

The aerial vehicle resembles a science fiction flying bike with two ducted rotors instead of wheels, but originates from a design abandoned in the 1960s because of stability and rollover problems. Aerofex, a California-based firm, fixed the stability issue by creating a mechanical system — controlled by two control bars at knee-level — that allows the vehicle to respond to a human pilot's leaning movements and natural sense of balance.

"Think of it as lowering the threshold of flight, down to the domain of ATV's (all-terrain vehicles)," said Mark De Roche, an aerospace engineer and founder of Aerofex.

Talk about fool's gold. Trying to remake a Cronenberg film WITHOUT Cronenberg.

VIDEODROME has a LOT of problems, but, the essence of the film is Cronenberg. There's even talk of opening it up and making it more "action" oriented. Here is the new filmmakers' pitch: "...modernize the concept, infusing it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller."

http://www.geeksofdoom.com/2012/08/23/out-with-the-new-flesh-in-with-the-lame-wh...

A tad misguided, no?

I clicked the link. I read the article. I was dismayed. When I saw that Ehren Kruger of "Transformers II" er, uh, fame was writing the script, I had to check that the article wasn't from "The Onion". Roll Eyes
