It's the big 5-0 coming up for the Marathon.

Should it be an All Greatest Hits lineup? Half and half? Specific film suggestions?

i asked chat gpt
can lucas screen a personal print of star wars a new hope.
ChatGPT

George Lucas retains some unique rights regarding "Star Wars," but Disney holds the majority of control over the franchise. However, Lucas has previously granted special permissions for screenings of his personal prints. For example, he approved a rare screening of a pre-Special Edition version of "A New Hope" at an event hosted by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (Jedi News) (New Statesman).

While Disney owns the overall rights to the franchise, Lucas still possesses personal copies of the original films and can potentially screen them privately or under special circumstances, provided it doesn’t conflict with Disney’s rights and commercial interests.

Has there ever been any discussion of showing The Rocky Horror Picture Show?

Oh, yes - for years. When we did the Rocky Horror sing a long, that may have been an opportunity. But, alas, I think it's an idea who's time has passed

Hopefully, TRIFFIDS' restoration will be done soon.

INVADERS is always fun. Too bad last time it showed at the 'Thon (SF/28, 2003) there were too many a-holes in the crowd who mocked it.  >:(

svengoolie said that the sets were all designed and built for a 3d movie. when the day of shooting arrived, they could not get a 3d camera. they shot 2d and the result is not altogether unpleasant or detracted.

Star Wars: A New Hope and the Empire Strikes Back have both been shown, but Return of the Jedi has not, so that's a possibility.

Now that they are all controlled by Disney it's real tough. DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL was difficult enough,.

I've been trying to think of a few suggestions that would balance out classics with some newer stuff. Here's a couple.

For classics, there's Quatermass II (aka Enemy From Space), which as far as I can tell, has never played the marathon and is notable as an early 'body snatcher/alien mind control' style story. There's also Fantastic Voyage which is always fun and colorful and hasn't played the marathon in at least 20 years.

For more recent films, there's a few notable ones from last year, including The Artifice Girl, The Creator, Infinity Pool, and Godzilla Minus One, though I can imagine that last one might be trickier to book. I also think Jonathan Glazer's Under the Skin from 2013 might be a trippy, late-night selection and 2020's Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes is a really fun time travel comedy.

Krull hasn't been shown yet.  It might make a good late night movie.

Official Boston Sci-Fi podcast about the writing of the book to commemorate 50 years of the Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival & Marathon.

Stay tuned to the very end. There's a clip reel that could be giving hints of films to be shown this year?
