Ursula K LaGuin passed away today. Her novel, The Lathe of Heaven, was made into a PBS movie. One of the greats has passed and will be sorely missed.

The first science fiction author that my spouse ever liked.
I offered her The Left Hand of Darkness with some trepidations. She found things in it that I had not.
One of the few novels ever to win both the Hugo (fan based) and Nebula (voted by writers) as best novel of it's year. Far too complex for the simplicities of film.
Met her once, for a total of about 20 seconds, while she signed a book. As has always been the case when I have met authors who I loved, I burbled some boring inanities of appreciation.
I feel old. All but three of the couple of dozen SF authors who I most esteemed are dead. Probably means that I am not keeping up.

I once opined that Sturgeon's Law was a thoughtful underestimate of comments such as the above.
Your point?
