Title: GEORGE ROMERO, Night of the Living Dead RIP
Post by L.A. Connection on Jul 16th, 2017 at 4:40pm
GEORGE ROMERO, who's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD could very much be called the father of the modern horror film (and certainly of the current iteration of zombie cinema, TV & literature) has passed on.

Of course, Romero was more Horror than sci-fi, but, I was happy to personally procure a 35mm film print of THE CRAZIES to be shown at SF/31 (our West Newton year). And, NIGHT OF THE LIVING dead was a 'substitute' for Cronenberg's THEY CAME FROM WITHIN in Cinema 2 at SF/3.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD remains my fave Romero film, but, certainly, the follow-up DAWN remains a dark delight. I am also a big fan of his KNIGHTRIDERS, a strangely comepelling look behind the scenes at a Medievel faire group. MONKEY SHINES is also an underrated film. But, of course, it will be his Zombie films that define him, much as he defined the zombie film.

Perhaps one day, he'll become undead himself. Regardless, his name will remain eternal in the annals of horror cinema.  :'(
