Title: Ray Bradbury a commie? ALL sci-fi writers?

Yup, the FBI kept a file on possible "subversive" Ray Bradbury. Have they NO shame?

And, they extended their suspicions to all SF writers. Here's this choice excerpt: "The general aim of these science fiction writers is to frighten the people into a state of paralysis or psychological incompetence bordering on hysteria"

I thought that was the aim of horror writers?

People do not realize the level and amount of surveillance of
"Subversives" by the FBI. It wasn't at the level of the East German STAZI, but that wasn't for lack of trying.
They had too much money. And the imagined deviousness that they credited to leftists was phenomenal.
Didn't go after organized crime, white collar crime or the KKK until forced to do so by bad publicity. So who was left?
(Note bad pun above.)
And writers were known lefties. Particularly those who looked at society & its trends. It's even true that an early SF writers group, the Futurians, included a few commies, as well as pretty apolitical types like Fred Pohl, Isaac Asimov & Damon Knight.
But the FBI  investigated everybody.
