NIGEL DAVENPORT, who graced the Marathon screen again this year in PHASE IV has passed on.
Davenport had a long career going all the way back to the seminal 50s British film LOOK BACK IN ANGER all the way until a bit part in SHANGHAI NIGHTS. He had significant roles in such important films as CHARIOTS OF FIRE, MAN FOR ALL SEASONS and MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS.
Other than PHASE IV (SF/9, SF/38), Davenport graced the Marathon screen in the controversial Cornel Wilde film NO BLADE OF GRASS (SF/13). Two more Marathon worthy films, 1977's ISLAND OF DR.MOREAU and THE MIND OF MR. SOAMES (a 35mm print exists! I've seen it!) are on his resume along with horror films like PEEPING TOM and as Van Helsing in the fine 1974 TV version of DRACULA with Jack Palance.
A talented and sturdy actor. R.I.P.
