Title: UPSIDE DOWN
Post by Jay Seaver on Mar 19th, 2013 at 11:53am
Just published a review of "Upside Down" on eFilmCritic (link!).  The "science" in it will make your head hurt, but it's a gorgeous movie with a pretty likable cast in Jim Sturgess, Kirsten Dunst, and Timothy Spall.  Playing Kendall Square through Thursday and then leaving the Boston area.  I kind of wish I had time to see it again, and that it was playing somewhere with 3D (although I don't know that it's even getting a 3D theatrical release; the posters don't mention it, though the Blu-ray will include that version).

Fun/cute/sweet.  Wouldn't mind it showing up at the marathon next year, even if some of the crowd will (justifiably) rip the script to shreds.

It sounds intriguing in a lite - ANOTHER EARTH, HAPPY ACCIDENTS - kind of way. If I get a chance I may check it out. The reviews are mostly meh, but, it may be worth a look.

Don't get me wrong - the writing is terrible.  Really awful.  But it's gorgeous, and not just in a "we threw a lot of money at CGI people" way; there's discovery and surprise in even conventional sequences.

If it's playing on the big screen near you and you're a little interested, go for it; I don't think it'll be nearly as much fun on home video.
